Animated demo of the Burpee as the FitnessBruh app shows it

A burpee takes you from standing to a plank and back, and this burpee counter follows how upright your torso is. It counts each rep out loud once you stand back up.

The push-up and the jump at the top are optional and don't change the count. Set the phone down and get ready during the five-second countdown.

Phone setup

Lay the phone sideways (landscape) on the floor, about 3 meters (10 feet) away, for a side view of you. Your whole body, head to feet, has to fit in the frame, both standing and in the plank.

Stand side-on to the phone.

How FitnessBruh counts it

The signal is how upright your torso is, the line from your shoulders to your hips. Standing upright is the start, flat in the plank is the far position, and standing back up counts the rep.

The push-up and the jump are optional and don't change the count. Squatting down with your hands on the floor without kicking back to the plank doesn't count.

Counting begins once the camera has a steady view of your shoulders and hips, so stand tall in the frame while the countdown runs.
