Incline Push Up Counter: Hands-Free Incline Push Up Rep Counting

Reps · Chest, Triceps, Front delts · A low step or box

Animated demo of the Incline Push Up as the FitnessBruh app shows it

Pressing from a raised surface is easier to control, and this incline push up counter follows your elbows while you do it. The phone lies low on the floor.

Both arms are read together. There's no one-arm mode. Pick a low step or box, get your hands on it during the five-second countdown, and the coach counts each rep out loud.

Phone setup

Rest the phone on its side (landscape) on the floor, lens low, about 2 meters (6 feet) away. All of you, head to feet, needs to fit in the shot.

Position yourself halfway between side-on and facing the phone, so both arms stay in view. Your hands go on a step or box at knee height or lower, with your feet on the floor.

How FitnessBruh counts it

The camera follows the angle at your elbow, shoulder to elbow to wrist. Straight arms on the step are the start, a clear elbow bend as your chest lowers is the far position, and pressing back to straight arms completes the rep.

Both arms are read together. There's no one-arm mode. A press that stops short of the far position isn't counted, so each lowering needs its full bend.

Counting only starts after you've been down in the push up position for a moment, so getting your hands onto the step adds no rep. Get up mid-set and it pauses until you're back down.

FAQ

How high should the step be for incline push ups?

Knee height or lower, with your hands on it and your feet on the floor. A taller surface keeps your body more upright, and counting may not start.

Where does the phone go for incline push ups?

Sideways (landscape) on the floor, lens low, about 2 meters (6 feet) away. Turn your body halfway between side-on and facing it so both arms stay in view.

Is an incline push up easier than a regular one?

Raising your hands usually takes some load off your chest and arms, which makes it a common step toward the floor version. The counter follows the same path either way.
