Stepping wide to one side and sitting into that knee asks a lot of your hips and thighs. This lateral lunge counter reads each knee and counts every full lunge out loud, so you can stay focused on the push back to standing.
Pick alternating mode, where each side adds to your total, or one-leg mode, where the coach calls the switch. Square up to the phone during the five-second countdown.
Phone setup
Stand the phone sideways (landscape) at chest height and step back a few steps, until your whole body fits in the frame.
Face the phone. Step wide to one side and sit into that knee, with the other leg straight.
- A forward lunge doesn't count here, so keep your steps out to the side.
Form cues
- Stand tall first. Starting upright is the position every rep returns to.
- Step wide to the side. A long step out sets up the sit into one bent knee.
- Sit into the bent knee. Dropping your hips back and down toward that knee is the far position of the rep.
- Push back to standing. Returning to an upright stance completes the rep.
Common mistakes
- Lunging forward. A forward lunge doesn't count here. Step out to the side instead.
- Staying shallow. A step that never sinks into the bent knee doesn't reach the far position and isn't counted. Sit your hip down toward that knee.
- Letting your chest collapse. Keep your chest lifted so your hips have room to travel down.
How FitnessBruh counts it
Each knee is measured on its own, from hip to knee to ankle. Standing is the start, sitting into the bent knee is the far position, and pushing back to standing completes the rep.
A second signal has to agree on each side: that side's hip has to drop down toward its knee. In alternating mode each leg has its own count, and a rep is counted whenever either leg completes one, so left and right both add to your total. One-leg mode follows your pick, the coach calls the switch with a short count-in, and the set ends once both legs are done.
It begins once the camera has a steady view of your shoulders and hips, which the countdown gives you time to set up.
