Lying on your side doesn't start the clock; lifting does. This side plank timer checks that your hips are raised above your ankles, and only then does the time add up.
Pick the side you want to start on and the coach handles the rest: the clock, the form calls, and the moment the set is over.
Phone setup
Lean the phone sideways (landscape) against something low on the floor, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, so you fit from head to feet.
Get into your side plank with your chest toward the phone.
- Keep your ankles visible. If the camera can't see them, the clock pauses without counting as a break.
- Switch sides between sets, because there's no per-side mode.
Form cues
- Chest toward the phone. That orientation is what this setup is built around, with your hips and ankles facing the lens.
- Push the floor away. Driving through your supporting arm keeps your torso lifted and gives your hips something to rise from.
- Lift your hips high. The timer measures your hip rising above your ankles, so a floating hip keeps the clock alive.
- Hold one straight line. Shoulders, hips and knees stay aligned, with the torso closer to horizontal than upright.
Common mistakes
- Resting on your hip. Lying on your side doesn't start or keep the clock. Lift until your hips rise above your ankles.
- Hiding your ankles. Keep your feet inside the shot for the whole set, because the hip-lift check measures your hips against your ankles.
- Facing away from the phone. Your chest should point toward the phone for this exercise. Rotate until it does before you lift.
How FitnessBruh times it
Three checks run together: a straight line from shoulders through hips to knees, a torso closer to horizontal than upright, and hips lifted off the floor, measured as your hip rising above your ankles.
If your hips sink the clock stops while the coach says “Hips up”, and lifting again resumes it from where it stopped. Like the plank, it takes a slightly longer settle before the clock starts, and that time isn't credited.
Once held time reaches your target the set closes, with any breaks along the way saved alongside it.
FAQ
Can I do both sides in one set?
Not in a single set, since there's no per-side mode. Do one side, finish the set, then roll to the other side for the next set.
Why doesn't resting on my side start the clock?
The timer checks that your hips are lifted, measured as your hip rising above your ankles. Lying on your side doesn't meet that, so lift first.
What if the phone can't see my ankles?
The clock pauses without counting as a break. Move your feet back into the frame, or shift the phone, and the time carries on from where it paused.
