Animated demo of the Zottman Curl as the FitnessBruh app shows it

Palms up on the way up, palms down on the way down: that turn is what makes a Zottman curl. This Zottman curl counter doesn't watch your grip. It watches how far your elbow bends.

Curl both arms together, or switch to one-hand mode and work one arm at a time. The coach counts each rep out loud and calls the switch for you.

Phone setup

Prop the phone upright at chest height, then step back until you can see both arms from your shoulders to your wrists.

Face the lens square-on, with both arms fully visible and nothing blocking either elbow.

How FitnessBruh counts it

The counter reads the angle at your elbow, from shoulder to elbow to wrist. A rep starts with the arm straight, reaches the far position as the dumbbell curls up and the elbow closes, and finishes when you lower back to straight, which is when the number is spoken.

Turning your grip doesn't change the elbow angle, so the counter doesn't see the rotation. The palm turn is yours to keep.

Two-arm mode averages both sides. One-hand mode follows your chosen arm, then the coach calls the switch and the set ends after both arms.

FAQ

Does turning my grip change the count?

No. It follows how far your elbow bends, not how your wrists are turned, so the palm turn is yours to keep. Palms up on the way up and palms down on the way down register the same way.

Can I curl one arm at a time?

Yes. Pick one-hand mode before you start. The counter follows one arm, the coach calls the switch, and then it follows the other, so you never touch the phone mid-set.

What if I forget to turn my palms down?

The count follows your elbow, so the rep still registers. Without the turn it's a plain curl, so the grip is your call: palms up on the way up, palms down on the way down.
