Animated demo of the Box Squat as the FitnessBruh app shows it

The box gives a box squat a clear bottom, and this box squat counter checks that you actually get there. It reads your knee bend, and a second check watches your hips sink toward the box.

Set a knee-height box right behind you, stand side-on to your phone, and sit back onto it. The coach counts each stand-up out loud.

Phone setup

Prop the phone upright at chest height and step back a few steps, so your whole body fits in the preview.

Stand side-on to the phone with a knee-height box behind you, so the camera sees your knee bend and your hips travel back.

How FitnessBruh counts it

The first check reads the knee angle at each leg, from hip to knee to ankle. Standing is the start, sitting down to the box is the far position, and standing back up completes the rep.

A second check watches your hips sink down toward the box. A partial squat that stops short above the box isn't counted even when your knees bend, because both checks have to agree.

Both legs are averaged into one reading. Counting waits for a steady view of your shoulders and hips, so use the five-second countdown to stand tall in front of the box.

FAQ

How high should the box be?

Knee height. This setup is built around a knee-height box set right behind you, so you sit back onto it and drive up.

Do I have to sit all the way down on the box?

The count needs your hips to sink toward the box. A partial squat that stops short above it isn't counted, even when your knees bend, so sit down to the box on every rep.

Why stand side-on for box squats?

The side view shows the knee bend and how far your hips drop, and the counter needs both. Standing square to the phone flattens them.
