Legs and torso rise together to meet in a V, and this v-up counter waits for both ends to lift. It counts each rep out loud from a phone on the floor.
Lie flat with your arms overhead during the five-second countdown. Both legs are read together, so every rep needs the full lift from your feet and your shoulders.
Phone setup
Place the phone on the floor in landscape, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, looking at you from the side. Check that you fit in the frame from head to feet.
Lie flat on your back, side-on to the phone, with your arms stretched overhead.
- A sit-up or a knee tuck won't register as a v-up, so lift your feet and your shoulders together.
Form cues
- Arms overhead. Start stretched out long, and the reach toward your feet at the top becomes the whole movement.
- Lift both ends together. Raise your legs and your torso at the same moment so your body folds into a V.
- Reach for your feet. Stretching your hands toward your toes at the top is the far position of the rep.
- Lower all the way back down. Returning to lying flat completes the rep, so don't hover halfway.
Common mistakes
- Sitting up only. If your feet stay down, a sit-up doesn't count here. Lift your legs as well.
- Tucking your knees only. A knee tuck with your shoulders on the floor doesn't count either. Raise your upper body together with your legs.
- Swinging up with momentum. Rocking your arms back to launch the lift skips the effort. Raise yourself smoothly from the floor.
How FitnessBruh counts it
The main measurement is the angle at your hip, from shoulder to hip to ankle. Lying flat is the start, the V at the top is the far position, and lowering all the way back down completes the rep.
A second signal has to move with it: both ends lift, your feet and your shoulders rising off the floor together. A sit-up, where the feet stay down, or a knee tuck, where the shoulders stay down, doesn't count.
Counting begins once you've been lying flat in position for a moment, so getting down adds no rep. It stops if you get up mid-set and resumes when you're back down in position. A steady view of your shoulders and hips is also required.
FAQ
What counts as one v-up?
Your feet and your shoulders have to rise off the floor together into a V, then lower all the way back down. A sit-up or a knee tuck alone doesn't count.
Why didn't my sit-up count as a v-up?
With your feet staying down, only one end of the movement lifts. A v-up needs both ends moving together.
Where should the phone go for v-ups?
On the floor in landscape, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, with you lying side-on and your whole body in the frame.
